We're truly fortunate to be surrounded by many lakes and river systems across southern Wisconsin, and most of them have great fishing opportunities. I've fished over thirty different lakes in the southern half of the state alone in search of bigger fish, and new adventures. Below is a list of lakes and rivers where I feel I have the most knowledge, and have the greatest opportunity to put you on fish.

  • Oconomowoc Lake, Waukesha County- This Clear, Cisco based lake offers great Walleye and Smallmouth fishing along with exceptional Muskie fishing. Muskies in the mid to upper thirty pound class are possible here.
  • Lake Mendota, Dane County- This is one of Wisconsin's premier fisheries. Lake Mendota offers exceptional Smallmouth, Largemouth and Northern Pike fishing throughout the year. Pike in the mid thirty inch range are common with many fish in the 40"-43"' range finding my net. This is my favorite lake to target in the fall for all three species listed above.
  • Lake Monona, Dane County- Lake Monona is the second lake in the Madison chain of lakes. Monona offers fantastic pan-fishing year round along with great bass fishing. Limits of bluegills in the 7.5"-9" range are common out here, and the lake continues to produce year after year. With the help of stocking, Muskie fishing is at its prime with many fish in the low-upper forty inch range, with a few fish in the fifty inch range. It can be a great action lake with a chance at a trophy.
  • Lake Waubesa, Dane County- Lake Waubesa is known as a good lake for almost all species. This lake is the easiest to fish on the Madison Chain. Defined weed edges make this a dream for both Casters and Trollers. Waubesa has the highest density of Muskies than anywhere on the chain. This lake puts out giant fish year after year.
  • Lake Wingra, Dane County- Lake Wingra is a 365 acre lake near the heart of downtown Madison. If you're looking to catch your first muskie, this is the lake to do it. At 3-4 muskies per acre, Wingra offers the highest muskie density than anywhere in the state. Low thirty to low forty inch muskies are common out here. This is a fantastic numbers lake!
  • Lower Wisconsin River, Columbia County- The lower river offers great early spring and late fall Walleye and Sauger fishing. Smallmouths from the middle of spring to the fall are highly sought after. This river is open year round for almost all species, making it a great place to fish before the Wisconsin fishing opener.
  • Lake Wisconsin, Columbia County- This lake is known for its fantastic walleye fishing and dinner plate sized crappies. Bass are open year round on this lake and that bite usually starts in April.
